After logging into windows the desktop comes into view jerky and every window i open is slow coming into view.I think thisis mainly a graphics problem because cpu performance is great. What do you mean that CPU performance is great - how are you determining this?

Did you do a fresh install, or a repair install, of Windows 7?

Overclocking can leave permanent damage.

Does the problem persist if you boot into safe mode, or log in as a different user? Is the problem constant, or intermittent? Does the problem continue for the duration of the time you use the computer, or does it eventually subside?

CPU performanceappears to be great because programs will startquickly and browsing is fast. Just the windows themselves will open and close with jerks.


I have not reinstalled Windows 7 i've just reinstalled the graphics card drivers.


Logging into another user account does not change the problem. Running Windows in safe mode works fine. If I reset CMOS and boot up, Windows 7 works great untill I reboot.

Windows Vista Ultimate is installed on another hard drive in the same computer but does not have this problem.

Just another thing to note down is that when I run any high graphics games they either run glitchy orslow motion.

Have you tried reducing hardware acceleration for the display adapter, in the Display Adapter Troubleshooter?

Perhaps the latest nVidia drivers are not yet good enough...

I wasn't able too locate the troubleshooter for the display adapter,but your probably right about the nVidia drivers not being good enough yet.Thanks for replying anyway.

I'd think you could get to the Display Adapter Troubleshooter by using the Search. It should also be in the Advanced settings of Display Settings, on the Troubleshoot tab...

I have exactly same problem with w7 RC x64. No problems with Vista x64 prem.

Even when using basic theme or windows classic theme I get slugish opening, closing, max and min animations. sa

Quick solution is to disable max and closing animation under advanced performance. I have also installed

W7 x86 to my old nc6000 (Ati mob9600/9700) laptop and I have same kind of experence. Vista Prem x86 runs fine.

I have installed windows 7 RC on three machines & i'm having problem Computer hangs at welcome screen.when we try to boot the computer in safe mode it boots fine,The starange part without making any changes if we restarts the computer bingo it boots normally.

I have been using windows 7 RC for a while and it works fine, however i have a problem here with login into windows desktop. This is not problem with specific computer its been happening with few computers which are running windows 7. I have seen that my desktop would not load after keying my user name and password but it says "Welcome", cursor keeps on circling but never pass the screen. I dont understand why it is happening and no errors or messages generated at the end though i dont have much option only to hard boot the computer. I have not tried booting the computer into safe mode, because i dont think that this is driver issue, becuase it is happening with other computers as well.

I had this exact problem on my stationary computer which is now 100% SOLVED!

I used to run Windows XP x86 without any problem, with both overclocked CPU and not. After upgrading to Windows 7 x64 the problems started...

The solution was to upgrade BIOS to the latest version. I have a GA-965P-DS3 (rev 3.3) motherboard running an Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2,13 GHz clocked to 2,66 GHz. I had BIOS version F10, the website states in version F11 "Support Intel E6420 & E6320 CPU", i.e. my CPU.

So after downloading and flashing BIOS to the latest version, F14, everything works like a charm! No more choppy, jerky, sluggish mouse movement. No more jerky, slow moving windows. No more jerky browsing. No more glitches in sound or anything else while performing any kind of task in Windows 7.

I can also add that before the update I got the system to run stable in Windows 7 x64 by removing the overclocking, i.e. have the CPU run in it's native speed of 2,13 GHz. After the BIOS upgrade everything works great in overclocked mode also!

Good luck to all of you with this weird manifesting problem under Windows 7!

Follow up:
I fiddled around with the BIOS settings and discovered that if I Enable "SATA Port 0-1 Native Mode" the problem is back... After some testing I'm pretty sure this was the problem all along. Putting it back to "Disable" doesn't matter, the problem in Windows 7 remains. The only way to fix it again is to "Load optimized Defaults" from BIOS (which is what I originally did after the BIOS upgrade). This however definately solves the problem with jerky mouse movements and sound stuttering in Windows 7 x64 for me.
So: 1. Load optimized defaults in BIOS (or equivalent for your BIOS) 2. Make sure the "SATA Native mode" setting is set to "Disable", i.e. it should run in "Legacy mode".
Again, my symptoms: I experienced jerky mouse movement while browsing. If I had music playing (using Spotify or Webradio) the sound started to stutter just from opening a new tab in the browser, or scrolling up and down on a site, as well as the mouse movements being jerky. In programs which uses fades I got the same reaction. Moving a regular window around in Windows 7 could get me the same reaction. Turning Aero off and moving a window to the very top and then right/left continuously (the Windows 7 snap function) also gave me the same reaction.
All these symptoms are gone now!

I had the same problem and through my laptop out the window and then bought a macbook pro

I had similar problem. I fixed it as follows:

Go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> System

Select Advanced system settings on the left.

Select the Advanced tab, and then Performance Settings.

On the Visual Effects tab, clear the selection of "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing".

This must have been changed on my system by some automatic maintenance. I've owned this system for 18 months or so, running Win 7, with no problem. Then suddenly it started acting like it was running an Intel Atom instead of an I7! I lose respect for Microsoft when they let goofy defaults get set as part of maintenance.

It's working fine now.
